Student enrollment in the Appoquinimink School District has more than
doubled during the past ten years, and is expected to continue its
rapid, 7% - 10% annual growth through much of the next decade. To put
this into perspective, our District is growing by 500-700 new students
(nearly one new school) per year.
Thanks to strong community support, we have been able to meet this
challenge with an aggressive, long-range facility development plan.
First came a massive schedule of renovations at every school, including
installation of state-of-the-art HVAC systems designed to economize on
energy spending. This was followed by a combination of new school
construction and additions to existing buildings, allowing us to
maximize available learning space.
The successful passage of our 2003 referendum has provided for the next
phase of growth, funding construction of a new high school
(Appoquinimink High), middle school (Alfred G. Waters Middle) and
kindergarten center (Cedar Lane Early Childhood Center); safety upgrades
at the District Office; and renovations to Louis L. Redding Middle
School, where we are adding an auditorium, lobby and choral/drama/band
rooms.
A summary of progress on these and other recent, large
scale-construction projects can be accessed from the menu to your left.
