The desire to provide a world-class education, where success is possible for all children, prompted us to develop our first multi-year strategic planning process in 1996. The work of making Appoquinmink students globally competitive continues with this year's update.
Achieving success will take time, but some dramatic changes are already underway. Beginning this fall, students in grades K-3 will be learning about different cultures and customs. Formal instruction in strategic world languages (Chinese, Japanese, Spanish and French) will begin in the fourth grade and carry through to grade 12. In addition, an International Education Task Force is hard at work defining the skills students will need to be successful global citizens and we are moving forward rapidly to make acquiring those skills a part of our curriculum.
I hope you will take a moment to review the new initiatives and contact a member of our staff with your thoughts. Your partnership is vital if we are to move our district to an ever higher level of academic excellence.
