Six candidates filed for one at-large school board
seat in the Appoquinimink School District, making it one of the most contested
races this year in the annual election to
decide who represents the state's public
schools.
Candidates had to file by Friday for the May 12
election. Full terms are five years.
NEW CASTLE COUNTY
In Appoquinimink, incumbent
board President Edward Czerwinski faces challenges from candidates Valerie
Jones-Rabb, Michael Kram, Nemishh Mehta, Norman A. Abrams Jr., and John Byron
Brown III. A seventh candidate, Geraldine Murray, withdrew
Friday.
In Brandywine, District G seat incumbent Cheryl
Siskin faces Aletha Ramseur.
Two challengers filed to face Christina School
District's District D seat incumbent Beverly A. Howell: John M. Young and Isaac
M. Harris.
In the Colonial School District, District G
incumbent and board President Diane L. Callaway faces a challenge by Gary P.
Bennett for her seat. Ronald P. Pierce filed unopposed for the District B seat,
which has been vacant since Kathleen Wilbur resigned in December
2007.
The Red Clay Consolidated School District will have
two races. William T. Hall, David A. McCorquodale and Eric S. Randolph all filed
for the District C seat vacated when Paul Fleming resigned the position in
February. That seat expires in 2012. And incumbent Marguerite E. Vavalla will
face Kimberly A. Williams for her District E seat.
