High School Robitics Team
In order to maintain a
competitive edge in the global society of the 21st Century, American
schools must inspire young people to embrace science and technology.
That's
what FIRST is all about (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology).Teams of from five to 25 students
in four different age groups accept the challenge to fund, design, build, and
compete with robots of their own creation in
local, national, and international contests.
Some win medals and
substantial scholarships, but everybody wins new friends, skills, confidence,
and
untold personal rewards. FIRST is more than a
"techie" competition. It's brings all kinds of people together in a
multi-generational, multi-talented, multinational way to make an impact on how kids think about themselves and who they choose to
admire. Some team members will design and build a robot entry. Others will raise
funds and create publicity. Still others will create team
names, logos, and competition outfits. The skills they learnalong the way all
but guarantee them extraordinary career opportunities in a host of exciting fields.
We're
proud to salute Middletown High's FIRST Robotics Team #1370, The Blue
Charge
. The team just returned from the
Philadelphia Robotics Competition held at Drexel University's Liacourus Center from March 19-21, where they finished in
