Middletown High School Earns Jostens National Yearbook Design Recognition: The Sword pages feature in 2009 Gotcha Covered Look Book
Middletown High School's yearbook, The Sword, has been recognized for excellence and featured in the 2009 Gotcha Covered Look Book. Published annually by yearbook
leader Jostens, the Look Book features yearbook spreads and covers from across the country. The Gotcha Covered Look Book is a popular reference guide for yearbook
advisers and staffs seeking creative design and coverage ideas, trends and inspiration.
The edition of The Sword selected by Jostens for its 2009 book was created by Chris McElwee (editor), Lauren Corcoran, Chelsea Frederick, Taylor Griffith, Eric Blair,
Marisa Raffaele, Stephanie Malantonio, Jordan Matthews, Janean McGee, Carly Di Virgilio and Courtney Uncapher. They worked under the direction of Mr. David Wright,
the Middletown High School yearbook instructor.
"It's a very unique honor," said Wright. "Yearbook design and production isn't the same as it was 10 years ago. To be a top school, the students need to be able to
recognize and create cutting-edge designs and do so in a highly-technical environment. Recognition in the Look Book is a testament to the skills and hard-work of the
students who devoted countless hours to building the book."
Middletown High School's yearbook was one of only 435 yearbooks selected from thousands submitted to a panel of judges that included nationally recognized scholastic
journalism professionals and award-winning yearbook advisers.
"Yearbook staffers capture once-in-a-lifetime stories that will be saved for decades," said Gary Lundgren, Jostens senior program manager/education. "The yearbooks
chosen for Jostens' 2009 Gotcha Covered Look Book showcase advances in design, photography, and journalistic excellence that reflect the sophistication and
significance of today's yearbook programs."
Mr. David Wright and his yearbook staff received a copy of Jostens' 2009 Gotcha Covered Look Book and certificate from Jostens to recognize their outstanding
achievement.
